Uncle Sam Wants YOU for U.S. Science

Are we losing what made America great?
A Debate on Science and America’s Future

"Given the many urgent scientific and technological challenges facing America and the rest of the world, the increasing need for accurate scientific information in political decision making, and the vital role scientific innovation plays in spurring economic growth and competitiveness, we call for public debates in which the U.S. presidential and congressional candidates share their views on the issues of The Environment, Health and Medicine, and Science and Technology Policy."

Science Debate 2011 in Estonia

Members of the Science Debate team have continued to support international science debates, which have now occured in parlaimentary elections in several countries.

Estonian science journalist Priit Ennet met with Science Debate cofounder Shawn Otto at the Euroscience Open Forum and has organized a science debate in the upcoming Estonian national elections.  Teadusdebatt 2011 will occur Monday February 14, 2011 at 6PM EET (11AM EST).

The debate will be held at the National Library in Tallinn at a time which is used each Monday for popular lectures on nature. These lectures have a well-established audience, many of whom are probably
interested in science topics and will probably be attending the debate.

They are spreading the word among scientists and in universities, and a major Estonian daily today covered the announcement of the debate. The debate will be interspersed with the performance of a singer. Including some live music is already a tradition in the nature lectures each Monday.

Video of the debate will be streamed live on Estonian Public Broadcasting´s science web site http://teadus.err.ee/ and on the nature lectures web site http://www.looduseomnibuss.ee/.

Electronic voting starts from February 24 and from February 28, advance voting in all polling stations takes place for three days.  The elections day is March 6.
